Many people grow up thinking they should be faithful to a few things: Country, religious persuasion, spouse, family, boss and job. There was always a certain sense of nobility attached to these with the loyalty to one’s job and boss akin to what medieval knights gave their lords.
Quite dramatic no?
When you go to work, you should give your best effort day in and day out, always keeping a high level of integrity and reliability. That’s what a worker is supposed to be.
What about loyalty to the company and your boss?
The fact is, when you work, your loyalty should be to yourself. Unless you knelt and offered your sword to your lord and master (your boss?), you should never let go of the fact that you’re working to achieve your own personal goals. Stay in your job should be because it suits you.
True loyalty has to be earned and is given freely. When you’re loyal, it doesn’t mean sucking up. It means after numerous encounters, you have deemed your superior worthy of being given that faithfulness.
The sad truth about being too loyal
There is such a thing as being the company stooge, the boss’s echo chamber, and your all-around sucker. A good example here is Smithers in The Simpsons. Regardless of what happens or what’s done to him, his unwavering loyalty for and near worship of Montgomery Burns, is always displayed.
Workers who put all their eggs in the loyalty basket, hoping to be rewarded by the boss after years (of not having a real backbone), will one day learn that the boss rewards others for the usual reasons: Stellar work, top-notch productivity and unquestionable reliability. If loyalty is the only thing you offer or if you give it more importance than it deserves, you will find that others are rewarded and recognised ahead of you and you will most likely be taken for granted and be unappreciated.
Thus, your first loyalty should not be to the company but to yourself.
Ask: What are you doing for yourself?
Work at things that you love doing so that it doesn’t feel like work.
Simone Studios Pte Ltd faced off against some of the best and most promising startups in Singapore in the recently concluded Startup Pitching Challenge held at the PSB Academy City Campus on 09 December 2018. Presented were the utterly unique position of the company and its product, GIGCO.
The company was one of the finalists in this competition meant to support the development of ventures around the world. All startups were evaluated based on the strength of their teams, the size of the business opportunity, the product and the technology behind it, the company’s current stage of business development and its marketing, sales and partnership initiatives.
The finalists were announced just five days before the competition, on 4th December, giving the Simone Studios team a not-so-simple task of preparing its pitch for the panel of judges. As always though, Simone Studios was ready.
There were venture capitalists sitting on the panel of judges as well as the audience. Events like this have very innovative business ideas and these investors were in the best possible position to see and appreciate these new ideas and be part of them. All of this was done in a "shark tank" format.
It was a tense and exciting five minutes in a shark tank format, loaded with the opportunities of tomorrow especially brought about by the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The atmosphere was full of anticipation as GIGCO made the pitch to the VCs and panel. It was electric, it was powerful, it was absolutely thrilling.
What is truly exciting is how GIGCO and Simone Studios will be responding to the needs of the worldwide property market. Those present got a glimpse of how freelancers can address the needs of this exciting and vibrant market to give it the energy and creativity it sorely needs. Also explained was the significance of both the astronaut and superhero imagery used by the company. The astronaut symbolises one of the most desirable jobs on earth while the superheroes show that anyone can accomplish the extraordinary, as if in possession of superhuman capabilities.
Will GIGCO and Simone Studios be back? Definitely. It’s just a matter of time.

Serving the Real Estate Market with Fantastic Imagery
The real estate industry depends on the power of the image. Listings with images, especially topnotch photos and videos done professionally, stand a significantly better chance of being sold more quickly at a higher price.
The GIGCO team knows this and capitalises on the talents of some of the best photographers and videographers to shoot and capture the images that can move those looking to buy property toward fascination, interest, desire and purchase. This is not an exercise in snapping a few photos. This is the artistic choice of position, angle, shot, lighting and props for photos and utilising the emotive effect of movement for videos.
The GIGCO team put together its first photo and video package for the Scotts Tower penthouse, highlighting the property’s best features and maximising the interest and desire factors in each image captured. The resulting video was published on the regular property portals in Singapore.
