Both established economies and those on their way up are seeing an increasing number of companies and individuals hiring freelancers. The cost savings can be considerable, and the level of talent quite encouraging so much so that even companies like Google, Facebook and Amazon now have a much greater number of contractual workers in their ranks. There are also more people who want to work on their own terms, work for themselves, at their own pace, near or in their own homes and on projects that mean more to them. It is also not unusual for these people to work for more than one company on more than one project at any one time.
GIGCO knows this all too well. GIGCO is the platform that allows freelancers like you to get onto the world’s gig economy seamlessly with the level of professionalism that you might have only experienced in traditional, big, brick-and-mortar companies.
GIGCO introduced itself in the Echelon Asia Summit 2018 held at Singapore Expo on 28 to 29 June. GIGCO showed how professionalism and freelancing could come together. One venture capitalist (who requested anonymity) kept coming back with his refrain: “You guys are onto the right thing. In the next two to five years, this is the next big thing and you guys get it.”
What does GIGCO get, actually?
The gig economy is not merely about matching talent with job requirements. It is also a community of experts cultivating and growing tomorrow’s talents, establishing professional standards and accreditation to ensure that those who need work done get the assurance of quality and reliability they deserve.
Professional emcee, Joe Augustin, a GIGCO pioneer talent, laments the existence of pseudo-professionals in the marketplace, people who define being “professional” as simply being paid for work. That is hardly the case, he says. There is a growing number of people, perhaps not yet referred to as professionals, who may be offering better quality than those who call themselves such. The possibility of encountering others within the same field in a spirit of community, however, may just be what you have been looking for especially in terms of improving yourself. “If you’re truly professional,” Joe explains, “you’d be interested to find out how well you do compared to the rest of the world.”
GIGCO sets the stage for a community of professionals and aspiring professionals to learn from each other and care for each other's welfare. This is why people like Joe serve not only as a GIGCO talent but also a GIGCO trainer so that he can be part of the effort that prepares talents like you for the genuine gig economy.
“It’s very exciting to be part of the economy of the future. It’s gonna be a lot of freelance work and when you help people express their creative side, be able to make a living or make a little extra money from the creative side as well, that is fantastic."“A lot of young people are gonna try a lot of different things. GIGCO is going to be a fantastic way for them to get additional skills, test out these skills and have themselves accredited through GIGCO.”
The Genuine Gig Economy
To most people, the gig economy is simply exchanging services and payment.
GIGCO sees beyond that. It has established pricing thresholds so each freelancer has the chance for decent pay, something that shows true value for work and expertise. This is also why GIGCO has training opportunities for its members--you. Each professional or aspiring professional need not look elsewhere to get skills or upgrade them. The best professionals are here and they provide not only training but a sense of community where everyone can share expertise or ask for help.
Now comes collaboration—professionals coming together to achieve the unimaginable. A talented person working alone will most likely get a job done. However, when different talents help each other, lifting each one's ability, something truly wonderful can be created.
This is what GIGCO has for YOU.

The Beauty of Living Spaces
Photo enthusiasts learned the basics of shooting interior spaces from GIGCO expert, Chris Alvarez, on 11 August 2018. Chris, in his distinctively light but no-nonsense style, left participants with more than ample knowledge in choosing the right equipment, handling it, framing, composing, and editing their shots.
The goal was clear: Equip participants with the artistic sensitivity and ability to create dramatic images of interior spaces to convey the beauty of both a structure and its accompanying elements and give everyone the experience of being in that space.
Chris took nothing for granted, ensuring that participants had their knowledge of camera settings down. He began his discussion with the appropriate aperture, shutter speeds and white balance for interior design photography. These were all just starting points, of course, as each interior setting demands its own approach. He moved into a discussion on proper framing and correct lighting and how these contribute to better composition.
He then discussed how such photos should be handled in post production using Adobe Lightroom, experimenting with highlights, midtones & shadows. He made sure to discuss how lens correction, exposure compensation and colour correction affected the image and how these contributed to tweaking a raw file to come up with a truly impressive final image.
